First Friday Openings

Besides being open for First Friday June 1st (stop in and and see the newly opened Time Pieces 5-8pm) there are quite a few other great exhibitions that we suggest you make your way to while you're out and about...



UNM's Raymond Jonson Gallery (located in the UNM Art Museum) Be sure and check out the Contemporary Art Society Prize Show (5-7pm) featuring Xuan Chen (1st prize), Kate Carr (2nd prize), Cedra Wood (3rd prize; we did a studio vist with her back in April for New Mexico Showcase) and Heidi Pollard (4th prize). The first annual CAS Prize was juried by Dave Hickey, Libby Lumpkin of the Department of Art & Art History, and Luanne McKinnon, Director of the UNM Art Museum.

Right across the street from UNM,  Tamarind Institute will be opening of Afro: Black Identity in America and Brazil, a group exhibition highlighting work by three Afro Brazilian artists and three African American artists who have been invited to create lithographs exploring the complexities of racial identity in Brazil and the United States. The exhibition will showcase work by Brazilian artists Rosana Paulino, Tiago Gualberto, and Sidnei Amaral along with American artists Alison Saar, Willie Cole, and Toyin Odutula. You'll have to catch this one before 5pm on Friday or during the rest of the week (Monday-Friday 9-5) because they're opting for a closing reception in lieu of the normal opening reception (August 24 5-7pm)

Tiago Gualberto Cabelo (Hair) 
The Outpost Performance Space's gallery Inpost Artspace will be opening Intervals: Paintings by Jill Christian (5-8pm) an exhibition featuring some of Jill's most recent work (we also did a studio visit with her for New Mexico Showcase back in March) Be sure and catch this one while you're in the UNM area.

Our friends at the Harwood Art Center will be hosting two exhibitions (6-8pm), The front gallery will showcase, John G. Garrett's Wire Drawings and Constructions and the main gallery will feature Santa Rosa-based artist Anneliese Vobis' latest offering Fil-a-ment

SCA Contemporary will be opening A Finite Passing of an Infinite Passion (5-8pm) a group show featuring the work of 20 contemporary artists mixed with religious artifacts and ephemera curated by Danielle Rae Miller & Laura Ratcliffe. Featured artists include, Steve Barry, Angela Berkson, Rebecca Blankley, Stephanie Brunia, Cauldron of Awen, Erin Currier, Kristin Deiner, Jennifer Hudson, Lynn Johnson, Christopher Knerr, Ted Laredo, Stephanie Lerma, Tim Mullane, Larry Bob Phillips, Photosynthesist, Linda Mae Tratchaud, Greg Tucker, Jennifer Vasher, Christine Wallers.
